A large majority of the books published each year are non-fiction. Could the Globe simply be trying to reflect that reality by picking 12 nonfiction favorites and 6 fiction, thereby giving nonfiction and fiction authors roughly equal fighting chances within their own categories?


Come on, the Globe could have tried a little harder. What's so wrong with the tried and true top 10 list? Ten good fiction titles, surely they reviewed at least 10 notable fiction books this year. Or maybe not, considering the shrinking space for fiction reviews.
