Two books by local authors have made their way to the top of our TBR pile. The first is Mohr by Frederick Reuss, which recently garnered some love with the NYT and the San Francisco Chronicle. Reuss, who loathes self promotion, would never tell us about the nice newspaper nods, but thankfully we know how to google.
Next up is Alex MacLennan's first book, The Zookeeper, which has local authors Richard McCann and Louis Bayard buzzing. Stay tuned.
Color Us Intrigued:
Poetry at the speed of light. Fresh from her book tour bouts with Steve Almond, our pal Julianna Baggott faces off with Robert Pinsky tonight at 9pm on Quickmuse, the improvisational poetry site. (For more background, check out Quickmuse creator Ken Gordon's essay in Poets & Writers)
Julianna writes:
"Why me and Pinsky? I have NO idea…I may not be in peak poetic form but, after battling Almond lo these many months and years, I am in peak fighting form."
The Quickmuse site assigns two poets a topic and they're asked to make up some on-the-spot verse. Readers will be able to watch the poem as it reveals itself, letter by letter, or read the results later. Pinsky vs. Baggot? hmm…The U.S. Poet Laureate and Consultant in Poetry to the Library of Congress versus a seasoned mother of three, author of four novels, three books of poetry and survivor of a book tour with Steve Almond. The smart money is on Baggott. Pinsky doesn't stand a chance…
