I, for one, will be there! Thanks for the postings, O Happy Booker!


A lovely reading--sweet, dark, beautiful prose followed by a good-humored question-and-answer session and Richard's tireless signing of books in a line that stretched the whole length of the store. R. also shared with the audience old photographs of his mother and a shot of he and his brother in matching sailor suits and hats (!!) from his days in Silver Spring. Clearly a hometown hero, here, and a real sense of welcoming from this DC crowd.

(Note to writers: If you put the word "mother" in the title of your book and you publish it, you might have to hear the domineering mother story from each and every person who buys your book. Be prepared. :) )
