Levitin fuses his careers in professional music and neuroscience to look at the profound impact of music on the brain, examining the relationship between music production (how music is composed with sensory integration in mind) and perception (how certain songs get stuck in our head).

Dcevent_3Mary Gordon comes into town tonight (August 21). Catch her at Politics and Prose reading from Circling My Mother, her memoir that blends her own memories with the facts of her mother’s life including losing her mother to senile dementia.

[ed. note: We place Gordon's early novel Spending near the top of our enjoyable beach reads, while Men and Angels and The Company of Women were always favored by our college professors as required reading. ]

DC Event—Saturday Night

DceventIt's the dog days of Summer, so pack up the pooch and head to Politics and Prose Saturday night. Starting at 6 p.m. the bookstore will once again celebrate man’s (and woman’s) best friend. 

The store will feature a number of activities and treats for families and their dogs, offer 20% off all dog-related literature, and raise money and awareness for Homeward Trails Animal Rescue.
