Fairfax County, in partnership with Volunteer Fairfax, is organizing a
cleanup effort Friday, June 30, in the areas affected by recent flooding, including Huntington and Arlington Terrace. A Volunteer Mobilization Center will be set up at Edison High School ( 5801 Franconia Road, Alexandria) to coordinate volunteers. The center will open at 9 a.m., with volunteers working two shifts: 9 a.m.- 1 p.m. and noon - 4 p.m. The time allows for a one-hour volunteer processing and orientation and a three-hour working shift.
Volunteers are needed to work in the following areas:
Remove personal belongings from basements and carry out to the curb.
Remove mud from basements.
Pull drywall materials and carpeting out to the curbside.
General house cleaning.
Parking is available at Edison High School and Fairfax County will provide transportation via bus from the school to the cleanup area.
