Lunch was a fun affair yesterday with the ever-fashionable Lauren Cerand and her friend, Bryan Keefer, co-author of the New York Times Bestseller, All the President's Spin: George W. Bush, the Media, and the Truth. Both were in from New York to attend the National Press Club Awards last night, where Bryan collected an honorable mention for his distinguished contribution to online journalism on behalf of Campaign Desk (now CJR Daily, the online presence of the Columbia Journalism Review).
Bryan sends along his wry observations of the event, which we pass along— consider it a short and sweet Friend of the Happy Booker Report (FotHB), filed from the road:
"The crowd wasn't as fashionable as the Academy Awards, but the speeches were a lot shorter. (All told, they handed out about two dozen awards in the space of about an hour and a half of presentations.) Lots of journo-lebrities, though apparently Bill Keller of the New York Times was stuck on the runway at LaGuardia and couldn't make it. And I don't think I saw a BlackBerry in use during the entire ceremony, which has to be some sort of etiquette record for the profession."

Damn, it's just not fair. You just have too much goddam fun.

Ms. Booklust: Grab your passport and pay a visit to DC--there's plenty of fun to go around!
